Dr Rachel Benchekroun
I'm a sociologist and ethnographer based at UCL.
My research interests focus on migration, motherhood, support networks, family and friendship practices and social infrastructure, within the broader context of social and health inequalities.
Since 2017 I've been working with communities to research the impact of 'Hostile Environment' policies on mothers and families with insecure immigration statuses and 'no recourse to public funds' (NRPF).
I'm now researching food insecurity and the role of community food organisations (e.g. food banks) in addressing this.
In recent years I've co-produced research on growing up in coastal towns, and have also researched the impact of COVID-19 and lockdowns on people's support networks.
